Paul Giger born in Herisau, Switzerland, travelled Asia as a busker before studying music in Winterthur and Bern where he graduated with teachers and soloist diplomas. After three years as concertmaster with the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra he embarked on a freelance career playing a repertoire that ranges from the Baroque to contemporary composition, improvisation, jazz, and music of diverse folk traditions.
He has collaborated with musicians including Pierre Favre, Jan Garbarek, the Hilliard Ensemble, and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Indian and Arab musicians and performes all over the world. Giger has composed choral and orchestral pieces as well as chamber music, music for films and music for dancers and he released six albums on ECM.
